You don't need to ride to benefit from the healing powers of horses
Our horsemanship programs are open to riders and non-riders of all ages and abilities. People with disability and those experiencing isolation and loneliness are especially welcome to join us in these unique lessons, which are a great starting point for anyone with equestrian aspirations, or for those who simply want the healing powers of horses in their life.
Join our Horsemanship Program, designed for individuals of all abilities. Spend quality time with our horses while receiving expert guidance from our experienced coaches. The program caters to all ages, from 3 years old right through to adults.
Our flexible approach lets us tailor the experience to your needs, including time working with the horse on the ground and, if you're interested, some time riding, learning to communicate with your horse from the saddle.
Please note this experience is very different from a horse riding lesson. The focus in these sessions is learning, connection and understanding of horses.
Working with and caring for horses offers people so much more than the opportunity to ride. Horsemanship programs can support the development of many other life skills, and have tremendous impacts on mental health and wellbeing.
There are many physical and therapeutic benefits too:
Our horsemanship sessions offer a hands-on, ground-based experience that builds confidence, responsibility and connection with horses, without the need to ride. All horses have different personalities, just like us, and working with different horses teaches us to adjust our approach so they feel comfortable and we communicate clearly. The skills of horsemanship are transferable to many parts of daily life too. All of the horses at GCEC have been trained to be safe around all people, and we are proud to have bred many of them onsite.
Your learning will unfold as you are ready to progress, but it generally follows this scope and sequence:
This program is a fantastic option for NDIS participants, especially those seeking meaningful, capacity-building activities that promote emotional regulation, communication and physical coordination. Sessions can be tailored to individual goals and abilities. It also suits anyone experiencing isolation, loneliness, bullying or mental health concerns.
Horsemanship separate from a riding lesson.
