Competitions and events
There is always something to do at GCEC
At GCEC we organise lots of different activities for our members to enjoy all year long, and to discover new activities around horses and ponies.
Onsite competitions
We organise onsite equitation and jumping competitions every 4 or 5 weeks, on Sundays. For the younger ones or beginners, it is an equitation course with numbers and exercises to remember. A jumping course is a series of obstacles to be cleared in a set order. There are judges, and at the end of the day, awards for all riders who have competed.
It is an excellent experience for young riders and great practice for our riders competing in showjumping. We are the only riding school organising onsite competitions for our riders, letting them compete without having their own horse. On competition day we absolutely welcome parents and rider helpers!
Price: $70 per course. Two equitation courses are required before entering the jumping course (only one for adults). The competition fee is paid in full before the day and is non-refundable unless a medical certificate is provided, in which case credit is issued for the next competition.
Outside competitions
We also take our riders to outside competitions. Competition days are always great times for riders, who learn a lot thanks to the coaching we provide. Horses and ponies have to be prepared for travel in the float, and all the horse and rider gear prepared in advance, and it's a good occasion to learn how to plait your horse or pony. Every year our riders qualify for the Queensland State Championships, which we are very proud of.
Riders need to own their horse or pony to compete outside, or lease one of our school horses or ponies. Please contact us about our leasing options.
End-of-year show
We celebrate the end of the year with a horse show for everybody at GCEC: riders, non-riders, parents, family and friends. Our riders show everything they have learned during the year by performing a carrousel, a group of riders performing dressage movements in time with music. It is not an easy exercise, but every year all our riders, from beginners to advanced, children to adults, look forward to it. And the best part: riders dress up, and so can the horses and ponies!
